THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING STYLISH
I currently have a rather noticeable style. It changes slightly every week that passes as I change as a person, but I’ve always loved bright clothes and haven’t had normal coloured hair for the best part of a decade. For the most part, I’ve always had a style of some sorts, but I know many people that have really struggled with this in life, which I think is definitely a bad thing.
Style is very important for your mental health. It gives a sense of identity and ownership over your own body, and I for one have noticed a direct link between how much effort I put into my appearance and my mood.
When I dwell on the crappiness of life and let things bog me down, I don’t care what I look like and just want to hide from the world. Over time this can lead to feeling pretty low in self confidence and a general sense of not feeling myself. Whilst in contrast, when I give myself a ‘makeover’ and buy new clothes, dye my hair a new colour, I feel like Flo again. Not to mention how much more confident I am when I like the way I look. Taking the time out of my week to go shopping and try on different clothes I wouldn’t usually wear, or use a face mask and get a hair cut, it’s a way of looking after myself and giving myself some attention. And that is always a good thing! We spend so much time and energy looking after the interest of others in this world, its incredibly important we always put time aside for ourselves too.
So whether you wear bright sparkly make up like me, or love anything orange, or prefer baggy, cuddly clothing, find your style and own it!!
